The expansion of the Gebrüder Weiss branch capacity is based on the long-term plans of the logistics company and fits well into the growing number of shipments. The increase in B2C shipments began last spring and continued until the turn of April and May this year. With the reopening of retail stores, the volume of B2B shipments began to rise. At the end of June this year, the volume of all shipments exceeded the values from the strongest months of the Christmas season. Gebrüder Weiss expects further record numbers of volume and number of shipments in the Czech Republic in the autumn and before Christmas this year.
"The total handling and storage area at the branches in Jenč and Syrovice alone will increase to 30,600 square meters," explains Jan Kodada, Sales and Marketing Director. "Together with the new unloading ramps, we will be able to handle a higher number of shipments, even in a shorter time than before. New ramps adapted to the loading of smaller vehicles will also help us with this - these are the ones most often used to deliver consignments to end customers. ”
Thousands of square meters are increasing in Slovakia
From the middle of the summer of 2021, an expanded logistics facility with a new administrative, logistical and warehouse part will be in operation in Senec near Bratislava, Slovakia. The area has expanded by about 20 thousand square meters. The second largest investment by Gebrüder Weiss in Slovakia in 2013 will expand the space by 5,000 square meters in the logistics warehouse, 2,200 square meters in the transhipment area and also by 500 square meters in the administrative area. Another possibility of expanding warehouses by 10,000 square meters remains in reserve for the time being.
The company has decided to expand further in Slovakia so that it can continue to offer a high standard of service quality. In the new premises, it invests mainly in ecological solutions such as LED lighting, low-energy A + devices, waste sorting or an intelligent heating and cooling system.
The positive development is largely the result of high demand in the e-commerce sector. Thanks to the dense transport network and the possibility of direct connections to all European markets, the company also managed to gain important customers. Currently, Gebrüder Weiss SK also records an increase in deliveries of approximately 40 percent in the area of land transport and Home Delivery services.
Warehouses in Hungary will open the Adriatic corridor
As part of strengthening its branch network, Gebrüder Weiss opened two strategically important new locations in Zalaegerszeg in western Hungary and Pécs in the south a few weeks ago. Both are located on important transport links to southern and southeastern Europe - the so-called Adriatic Corridor. A complete portfolio of services can now be offered throughout Hungary. As in the Czech Republic, there was a sharp year-on-year increase in the number of shipments, especially in the area of Home Delivery.
Additional new handling and logistics facilities with an area of more than 5,000 square meters, to be completed by 2024, are being built in Györ. At the end of 2021, the current branch in Hajdúdorog will be relocated to Polgar, about 30 kilometers away, and will be able to use logistics areas that are approximately three times larger than before.
The largest Hungarian branch in Dunaharaszti near Budapest is also to undergo significant changes. By 2023, 22,000 square meters of new office and logistics complexes are to be built near Budapest, virtually doubling the space currently available to Gebrüder Weiss in the Hungarian capital.
