The new technique will help to increase the quality of check-in processes and allow easier handling of air cargo, at the same time more efficient use of space. "The orientation of the airport towards cargo transport proved to be a step in the right direction. The number of transported cargo at our airport is growing and the current capacities were no longer sufficient. The construction of a new terminal was necessary for further development. By putting the new cargo terminal into operation, we will increase the capacity of handled cargo by 36,000 tons per year," says Jaromír Radkovský, CEO of Ostrava Airport. "We are sure that the increase in capacity and the related improvement in the quality of the services provided will bring us new customers," he adds.
The costs for the construction of the terminal in the amount of 139 million crowns were partially covered by external sources in the form of a bank loan. Another part was financed by a contribution from the Moravian-Silesian Region, which owns the airport. "The new hall connected to the apron will strengthen the capabilities of our airport. The increased capacity and new technologies will make it possible to provide services to more clients, so I believe that this investment will appeal to other strategic partners and customers in the field of cargo transportation. Mošnov is gradually becoming an important hub, cargo travels through our airport not only within Europe, but also to Asia," comments Jan Krkoška, Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region.
The general construction contractor was the construction group HSF System. "I am pleased that we completed the project on schedule and that the strengthening of the airport's handling capacity will bring further development of cargo air transport, which is positive news for our entire region," states Jan Hasík, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the construction group HSF System, and adds : "I would also like to thank Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport in Mošnov and the Moravian-Silesian Region for the functioning and exemplary cooperation that is very important for these strategically important projects."
DHL to Leipzig and UPS to Cologne currently operate regular cargo connections from Ostrava Airport. The connection with Asia is provided by the company EGT Express, which uses the planes of Uzbekistan Airways.
