Lidl has been focusing on the ecological aspects of its buildings for a long time, so even the new logistics center in Bravantice adheres to the strict ecological standards that were set by the last open warehouse in Buštěhrad. The warehouse and administrative spaces, including the facilities, use waste heat from the gas cogeneration unit and cooling technology. The lighting of the space is provided by modern LED technologies with smart control, which includes sensors for monitoring sunlight and people's movement. The energy self-sufficiency of this warehouse is significant; in the future it will be possible to cover the substantial consumption of electricity with production from the own photovoltaic power plant. Due to the insufficient capacity of electricity in this location, most of the electricity consumption must be covered by production from the gas cogeneration unit. This makes this warehouse the first of its kind in Europe that Lidl has built in this way.
The complex, which is spread over 15 hectares of land, was built for almost two years. The area of the warehouse itself is less than 40,000 square meters and at full capacity it can hold almost 36,000 euro pallets. Two hundred parking spaces for employees, including charging stations for electric cars, and modern facilities are available within the entire area. Lidl has established cooperation with the surrounding municipalities and the Labor Office and provides bus transport from Ostrava, Bílovec and Studénka, with the stop located right next to the premises.
For the employees of the logistics center and stores, the grand opening ceremony, including the accompanying program, took place already on 24/07/2024. "The organization of the opening was the first stress test of the functioning of our personnel team, and I must state that our efforts and the precision with which we managed this entire mini-project , were quite exceptional. The program that we prepared, in cooperation with colleagues from the warehouse, not only met, but in many ways exceeded our expectations. Everything took place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, in which everyone involved could establish new contacts and deepen existing ones," said Katarína Poláčková, head of the HR department of the logistics center in Bravantice.
Lidl has already filled most of the jobs in the new logistics center. Only the last available places remain in the picking area in the warehouse. From September 11 to November 15, recruitment days are held every other Wednesday afternoon, during which a tour of the warehouse is also possible. The opening of this center is important for Lidl because it wants to contribute to good relations in the region and provide jobs for local residents."We aim to be a good neighbor and the opening of the new logistics center in Bravantice will not only strengthen our logistics operations, but also bring significant opportunities for the local community. The complex will offer up to 300 new jobs to the residents of Ostrava, which we consider an important step in our commitment to the development of the region. We believe that by creating stable jobs for local residents, we will not only support the individual growth of our employees, but also strengthen the community in which we operate," said Lidl Czech Republic CEO Adam Miszczyszyn.
As of September 1, the logistics center began to supply 26 stores as part of the first wave of heavy traffic, with another 26 to be added in November. In the future, the center is to supply up to 65 Lidl stores.
The opening of the logistics center in Bravantice will optimize the operation of warehouses and logistics. The food section of the goods was moved from the existing logistics center in Měřín, which will be used exclusively for the storage of consumer goods and part of the frozen assortment from autumn 2024.
