In February, Still and Mercurius jointly started construction of the new Still mechatronics center in the Billbrook district of Hamburg. The new building is being built on an area of 14,500 m² and will include 8,200 m² of production space and 2,600 m² of office space, providing space for 140 employees. The total cost of the land, construction and equipment for this project is 50 million euros and is scheduled for completion in early 2026, with the move expected in summer 2026.

Mechatronics brings together and processes knowledge from the fields of electronics, mechanics, computer science and control. It deals with the use of artificial intelligence in practice, the development of interactivity, autonomous operations, etc.

New center for innovation and production
With the new building, Still is increasing the usable space dedicated to mechatronics from the current 5,900 m² to 10,800 m². The company is thus responding to the successful development of mechatronics and at the same time laying the foundations for further growth and expansion of its portfolio of automated intralogistics solutions.

The new center will also enable the connection of several internal Still teams, which, according to the company's managers, will lead to the promotion of cross-functional cooperation, innovation and efficiency. In addition to production facilities, the new center will provide ample space for testing and development laboratories.

The new location is located just one kilometer from Still's current Hamburg headquarters and production plant with the existing mechatronics center. The space that will be created there in the future will be used, among other things, to expand the existing training facilities.

An Energy Center will also be established in Hamburg
The new project associated with the development of mechatronics underlines the importance of the Hamburg location for Still. "Hamburg is and will remain not only Still's headquarters, but also an important innovation center," says Florian Heydenreich, CEO of Still. Still plans to make further investments in Hamburg in the coming year and to develop the site into a future competence center for energy. To this end, the company is expanding its production in the area of innovative drive systems and plans to produce its own lithium-ion batteries from 2026.

“After opening our production site for fuel cell systems in 2023, the next step is to build up further expertise and pool resources in the area of modern energy systems,” explains Florian Heydenreich. “Lithium-ion technology remains one of the most important energy systems of the future. We are also supporting this trend by establishing our own lithium-ion battery production.”
